Edo WazaoEdo Fishing Rods

Edo Wazao has begun to be made with jointed fishing rod made using natural bamboo in Edo in the middle of Edo era. Late in the Edo era, we reached level to be able to call arts and crafts, and today's Edo Wazao was completed.

    Kisaburo Nakane

    It was born in 1932.

Characteristic

Edo Wazao is a practical tool, and differ by the fish it used for, the place it is used, and the preferences of its fishermen. After being designed for these varied conditions, they are then beautifully lacquered.

How to make

Materials are Japanese natural bamboo, and hoteitake, black bamboo, arrow bamboo, common Japanese bamboo are used mainly. The quality of pole is fixed in materials. We are particular about bamboo of materials so as that producer harvests bamboo by oneself and picks only several bamboo from several thousand. We use after polishing thing which we let bamboo idle for several years and dried. Because Edo Wazao is jointed fishing rod, only the number of the patches prepares bamboo becoming raw materials. We think about which bamboo you use when and prepare. Process is patch, spool, coating kyo (ta).

Edo fishing rods are made of Japan’s natural bamboo, primarily the Hoteitake, Hachiku, Yadake and Madake varieties. The materials used decide the final quality of the rod. The selection of bamboo is so important that craftsmen cut the bamboo themselves, and from thousands of cut bamboo stems, choose only a few to turn into rods. After being tried for several years, the bamboo stems are polished for use. As Edo Wazao is jointed, only the exact number of bamboo stems needed for all the joints are prepared. The stems are then up according careful consideration of which joint they will be used for in the rod. The stems are then lined up straight, jointed, bound together and finally lacquered to produce the rod.

After use, you wipe moisture, and please dry in the shade in good place of ventilation. Please give me storage on place where direct rays of the sun and air-conditioning are not. We return to original condition if we use for several years if we send on adjustment of producer.
