Kyo SashimonoKyoto Joinery

Opening dates back to the Heian era. Specialized cabinetmaker appeared after the Muromachi era, and, with establishment of tea ceremony culture, Kyo Sashimono developed, too.

Great care is taken with its preparation by ensuring that it is well seasoned and that any impurities are removed before the wood is worked. Apart from the many items which are made for use in association with the tea ceremony, some very finely crafted chest-of-drawers and wardrobes are also made. Freestanding shelves are also produced, sometimes for the display of fine china.

Characteristic

It may be said that Kyo Sashimono is represented by paulownia product. Paulownia materials prevent moisture, and paulownia product becomes pronoun of high-quality article of storing preparation because we are strong in heat. Paulownia materials to use in Kyo Sashimono are long; naturally dry, and distribute heart to the making of basis material to be without lye.
