Technique was introduced from Kyoto in last years of Edo era and we protected as side business of farmhouse and have been brought up. We raised completeness of product with the times, and technique improved before it produced result of superior fishing.
We exhibited at fisheries Expo in Meiji middle part and won many prizes, and it was in place where many anglers recognized the quality afterward. As production center producing most of the domestic fishing lures, we lead the industry today.

The techniques of this craft were introduced to Banshu from Kyoto toward the end of the Edo period (1600-1868). Local farmers began making the hooks and flies in their spare time, preserving and developing the craft over the years, while gradually perfecting each type of hook to a level at which it would bring good results. Flies won a number of prizes at Fisheries Fairs held during the late 1800s and as a result, Banshu Kebari earned the recognition of many fishermen.

It is important when making a fly to consider the type of fish being pursued, the season, the weather, and the depth and chemistry of the water the fish inhabits. Consideration for these factors has led to the development of more than 1,000 different types of fly. Making one requires the utmost concentration but the result is a piece of grand illusion in the most alluring colors, perfectly mimicking an insect in the water. Today, Banshu leads the field as the main producer of the countries output of fishing flies.

    Process 9: Money belt

    "Money belt" means that we make part equal to the body of insect.     Process 11: Shittama charge account

    Why would fishing lures which developed in Kyoto come to be produced in Banshu, Nishiwaki? This place was point (Kyoto - Kameoka - Sasayama - Nishiwaki - Kako River - Takasago - Shikoku) of traffic that the Kyokaido Road that bound Kyoto and Sanin Expressway, Kyoto Sanyo Expressway together at the time in the Tenpo era year (1830 through 1844) in the Edo era went along. Interchange with Kyoto was close, and skills and techniques from Kyoto that was the birthplace of fishing lure has been conveyed all the more. In part there is opinion which local peddler conveyed. On the other hand, many people go to service from here to Kyoto and therefore they learn the manufacturing method of fishing lure and are said to be even if we come back to Nishiwaki and increased amount of production. In that way, using off-season of agriculture, it came to be produced flourishingly. High product was not made like the present in this time, but we hung in the Taisho era from the end of the Meiji era, and technical improvement was remarkable, and production increased. After 1945, the times when fishing lure was sold best were the time for from 1947 to 30. And we follow drop line little by little from 35 years. We remain in 60% recently in comparison with the 50, Showa generation. We include some causes, but at first are that natural environments become bad. There is dam in the upper reaches of river next, and water do not flow. Do not boil environment where river is maintained, and fish (sweetfish) reproduces itself. How to make

We wind wing of several kinds of chicken around hook of only less than 1cm by silk thread. We greatly gradually roll up next from point to the root. Finally product looking just like aquatic insect which seems to fly away at any moment is completed when we make Shittama and put gold leaf.

The feathers of several types of birds are wrapped around a hook less than 1 cm long and fixed in place with silk thread. Next, successive layers are gradually added from the tip to the base to increase size. The lures are then completed by making a lacquer ball and attaching gold leaf to make them look just like aquatic insects ready to fly away any moment.
